The Firearms (Variation of Fees) Order 2025

The Secretary of State makes this Order in exercise of the powers conferred by section 43 of the Firearms Act 1968(1) and sections 11(4) and 17(9) of the Firearms (Amendment) Act 1988(2).

Citation, commencement, interpretation and extent

1.—(1) This Order may be cited as the Firearms (Variation of Fees) Order 2025 and comes into force on 5th February 2025.

(2) In this Order “the 1968 Act” means the Firearms Act 1968.

(3) In this Order “the 1988 Act” means the Firearms (Amendment) Act 1988.

(4) This Order extends to England and Wales and Scotland.

Amendment to fees for firearm and shot gun certificates

2.  In section 32(1) of the 1968 Act(3) (fees for firearm and shot gun certificates)—

(a)in paragraph (a), for “£88” substitute “£198”;

(b)in paragraph (b), for “£62” substitute “£131”;

(c)in paragraph (c), for “£20” substitute “£47”;

(d)in paragraph (cc), for “£4” substitute “£9”;

(e)in paragraph (d), for “£79.50” substitute “£194”;

(f)in paragraph (e), for “£49” substitute “£126”;

(g)in paragraph (f), for “£4” substitute “£9”.

Amendment to fees for registration as a firearms dealer

3.  In section 35 of the 1968 Act(4) (fee for registration and renewal as a firearms dealer)—

(a)in subsection (1), for “£200” substitute “£466”;

(b)in subsection (1A), for “£13” substitute “£30”;

(c)in subsection (3), for “£200” substitute “£466”.

Amendment to fees for co-terminous certificates

4.  In section 11(3) of the 1988 Act(5) (fee for the grant or renewal of a shot gun certificate on the same occasion as the grant or renewal of a firearm certificate)—

(a)in paragraph (a), for “£2” substitute “£4”;

(b)in paragraph (b), for “£28” substitute “£71”;

(c)in paragraph (c), for “£2” substitute “£4”;

(d)in paragraph (d), for “£3” substitute “£24”.

Amendment to fees for visitors’ permits

5.  In section 17(8) of the 1988 Act(6) (fee for the grant of visitors permits)—

(a)for “£20” substitute “£47”;

(b)for “£100” substitute “£233”.

This Order, which extends to England and Wales and Scotland, varies certain fees payable under the Firearms Act 1968 and the Firearms (Amendment) Act 1988. The new fee levels are set out below.
